WHAT IS VELO SCIENCE?

Velo Science has been set up by keen cyclist Simon Smart. For a number of years Simon has been looking at ways of improving cycling products using his expertise and experiences from 15 years experience in top level motorsport. Until recently this has been done in his spare time (what there was of it!) however in the Spring of 2007 Simon decided to leave his position as an aerodynamicist/team leader at Red Bull Racing to devote his time to establishing a business which can provide a number of services to the bike industry. Using his experience as an aerodynamicist and in commissioning Formula One wind tunnels, the priority to date has been to develop wind tunnel testing programs for the professional athlete, amateur cyclist and high end manufacturers.

Simon has developed the Drag2Zero concept which was first trialed in September 2007 at the Shrivenham wind tunnel with the first cyclist to try this out finding 30 seconds of performance over a rolling 10 mile TT course. He leap frogs from his usual 4th position to win the Princethorpe 10. This result and subsequent validation prove the correlation of the test facility.

In October 2007, the Drag 2 Zero wind tunnel service will be launched. Click here for more information..

Passionate about cycling, Simon has competed in a number of sportive's (including L’Etape du Tour with his best result being achieved in 2005 - Morenx - Pau with 455 place), road races and local time trials (a PB of 55.07 for a 25 mile TT). He therefore understands what cyclists are trying to achieve. This combined with his experience in aerodynamics means he is able to provide a service to cyclists and manufacturers which understands their needs; both technically and practically.
