WHAT IS VELO SCIENCE?
Velo Science provides research, design and development services to a number of industries. We offer a total package from design concept, research and development, defining expenditure through to providing prototypes.
We specialise in aerodynamics and have access to a number of wind tunnels including the Brawn GP F1 scale wind tunnel. Since the establishment of the company by former F1 aerodynamicist Simon Smart, highlights have included:
- aerodynamically designed the acclaimed Giant time trial bike used by Team Columbia High Road in the 2008 Tour de France and currently used by Team Rabobank. The bike has contributed to wins at numerous national championships and Bert Grabsch’s win at the 2008 world time trial championships;
- in 2009 we collaborated with Scott bikes to design the new Scott Plasma TT (time trial bike) launched at the Giro d’Italia 2009, used by Tea Columbia High Road in the 2009 Tour de France;
- the aerodynamic development of Hi Tech Racing’s Formula Three car including the manufacture of full sized parts for testing. Hi Tech have achieved a number of pole positions and wins during the 2008/2009 British Formula Three championships;
- development of the Drag2Zero® test protocol, allowing professional and amateur riders to optimise their riding position in a wind tunnel. See www.drag2zero.co.uk for further details.
